A Visitor Center is a facility located at a geosite that offers practical information about the site and the activities available there. It also functions as an educational and exhibition space, showcasing the area's natural and cultural heritage (Burlando et al., 2011).
THE LAST BELITONG KING’S RESIDENCE
The Visitor Center building is modeled after the "Ruma Panggong, the residence of Depati Cakraningrat IX, KA Muhammad Saleh, who ruled Belitung from November 24, 1854, to 1873. The original house was located at the intersection of Jalan Rahad and Jalan Sudirman in Tanjung Pandan before it was demolished due to its deteriorating condition.
COOPERATION & DEVELOPMENT
King Depati Cakraningrat IX, KA Muhammad Saleh, was the first leader to collaborate with the Dutch private mining company, N.V. Billiton Maatschappij. He served as the mine supervisor and received a share of the profits from the mining activities. He used the proceeds to fund development projects, such as constructing a main road connecting Tanjung Pandan City with the surrounding districts. This development facilitated the establishment of villages along the main road.
